Prime Protection extended warranty from iA, offered through OCAL. Five plans, 24/7 roadside assistance, repairs paid direct. Optional, added to financing.
Short answer An extended warranty pays for eligible mechanical and electrical repairs after the manufacturer's warranty runs out, or when a used vehicle has none left. Through OCAL you can choose one of five Prime Protection plans from iA Dealer Services, include the cost in your financing, and have eligible repairs paid directly to the shop. Optional, and never a condition of approval.
Get approvedIt covers the failure of listed parts, from the engine and transmission up to the electronics, depending on the plan you choose, and iA pays the repair provider directly for eligible repairs.
Most of the vehicles we deliver are used, and a used vehicle out of factory warranty leaves you carrying every repair bill yourself. A single engine, transmission or hybrid-battery repair can cost more than many households keep in savings. We source from a digital inventory of more than 3,000 vehicles through OPENLANE and partner dealers, and every vehicle is inspected before delivery, but no inspection can promise that nothing will fail in year three. The plan is there for that.
You pay the deductible on the plan you chose, if there is one, and the plan pays the rest of the eligible repair. There is a zero-deductible option.
Five plans, from the essentials to near-factory coverage. Each plan includes everything in the plans below it.
| Plan | What it covers | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Engine, transmission and transaxle, differentials and transfer case, hybrid components | The parts that cost the most to replace |
| Silver | Bronze plus seals and gaskets, turbocharger, supercharger | Turbocharged and diesel engines |
| Gold | Silver plus air conditioning, electrical components, brake system, steering, front and rear suspension, fuel injection | Most used vehicles three years and older |
| Top-up (new vehicle) | Seals and gaskets plus the Gold systems and electronic high-tech, layered on top of the factory warranty | Newer vehicles still under manufacturer warranty |
| Platinum | Everything above, plus a Platinum package on each system, body hardware, fuel delivery, cooling system and diagnostic costs | The closest thing to factory coverage on a used vehicle |
Two options are available on any plan for a surcharge: Ultra high-tech (driver display screens, navigation, Bluetooth, radio head unit, backup camera and sensors, blind spot sensors, keyless push-button ignition, advanced keyless entry door handles, heated seat elements, power sliding doors, power tailgates and power mirrors) and Zero deductible.
A plain word on fit: older or high-kilometre vehicles are the ones most likely to need a repair, and also the ones where a Gold or Platinum plan earns its keep. Your specialist will tell you which plans the vehicle qualifies for.
Every Prime Protection plan comes with the same set of benefits, whichever level you choose.
24/7 roadside assistance. Mechanical first aid, tire changes, battery boosts, fluid delivery, towing and locksmith service.
No out-of-pocket repair bills. iA pays the repair provider directly for eligible repairs and for roadside assistance.
Reducing deductible. Bring the repair back through your selling dealer and your deductible drops by $50.
Transferable. Sell the vehicle privately and the unused coverage goes with it, which adds to what a buyer will pay. (If you would rather have licensed dealers bid on it, see Sell Your Car. )
Rental and trip interruption. A rental car at $50 a day for up to five days, and $100 a day for up to three days of lodging and meals if you are stranded away from home. Included on Top-up and Platinum; optional on Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Conditions apply to these benefits. Your contract sets out the details.
The lists below are a summary of the contract clauses so you can compare plans. The contract wording governs.

Every eligible Platinum repair includes the fluids, filters and refrigerant the repair needs.
Ask your specialist. The plan is set up when you buy the vehicle and the cost can be included in the amount financed, so it is part of one monthly payment rather than a separate bill.
The price depends on the vehicle, its age and kilometres, the plan and the term. Your specialist shows you the figure and the total cost of borrowing before you sign, and you can say no. Buying protection is optional and never a condition of approval. If you want to test what a few extra dollars a month does to a payment, use the loan calculator.
Many customers pair an extended warranty with GAP protection, which covers a different risk: the shortfall between what you owe and what your insurer pays if the vehicle is written off or stolen. If you have not applied yet, the online application takes about two minutes and uses a soft credit check.
More general questions are answered on our frequently asked questions page.
No. Protection products are optional and never a condition of approval. The lender's decision does not depend on them.
Yes. Hybrid components, including the propulsion battery, inverter, electric motor and high-voltage cable, are covered from the Bronze plan up. A home charging station bought new with the vehicle is covered too.
No. The plan covers the failure of listed parts, not oil changes, brake pads, tires or other maintenance and wear. Your contract lists the exclusions.
The deductible on your plan, if any. Have the repair done through your selling dealer and the deductible drops by $50. Choose the zero-deductible option and you pay nothing on an eligible repair.
