How does OCAL Financial work? Approved first, car second, delivered to your door

How OCAL Financial works: a two-minute application, a soft credit check, approval before the car, then a vehicle sourced to fit and delivered to your door.

Quick answer: OCAL Financial is an online used-vehicle dealer and financing arranger licensed in British Columbia and Alberta. You apply in about two minutes with a soft credit check, a specialist matches your file to a lender in OCAL’s network, and you get an approved budget before any vehicle is discussed. OCAL then sources a vehicle to fit the approval, inspects it, and delivers it to your door. Most applicants hear back the same business day.

What is OCAL Financial?

OCAL Financial Inc. is a virtual dealership. It has operated since April 2021, is licensed as a motor dealer in British Columbia and Alberta, has offices in Vancouver and Edmonton, and delivers anywhere in either province. Since July 2026 its shares have traded on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol OCAL.

OCAL does two things for a customer. It arranges financing through a network of Canadian lenders, and it sources and sells the vehicle that fits the approval. OCAL does not lend its own money and does not hold your loan. Your rate and term are set by the lender. OCAL’s job is to find the lender most likely to say yes to your file and to get the paperwork right the first time.

How is OCAL different from a car dealership?

A traditional dealership sells the car first and arranges the financing second. That order is why so many people with imperfect credit spend a Saturday on a lot and drive home in the car they arrived in. OCAL reverses the order: approval first, then the vehicle.

Traditional dealership

OCAL

First step

Walk the lot, pick a car

Two-minute online application

Credit check

Often a hard pull at the desk

Soft check first, hard pull only when you accept a specific approval

Vehicle

Whatever is in stock

Sourced after approval, from the OPENLANE auction network and partner dealers

Delivery

You drive it off the lot

Delivered to your door in BC or Alberta

Rate

Dealer may add a markup

No rate markup

Does OCAL have any inventory?

Not on a lot. OCAL keeps zero standing inventory by design: no vehicles sitting on a lot losing value while they wait for a buyer. What it has instead is a digital inventory of more than 3,000 vehicles across Canada, through its OPENLANE partnership and partner dealers, at wholesale pricing, that it can buy the moment a customer is approved. OCAL does not stock cars, it stocks access. There is a difference between having no inventory and having no access, and the single lot with sixty cars on it is the one with the limited options. The Inventory page shows the network listings. Once your vehicle is bought, it is stored, inspected and, where needed, reconditioned at the OPENLANE location, then delivered to you.

That is the difference between OCAL and a broker. A broker introduces you to a lender or a dealer and steps away. OCAL runs the whole transaction: application, lender, vehicle, paperwork and delivery, with one specialist on your file throughout.

What happens after I apply?

Six steps, in order. Nothing is hidden behind a desk.

Apply online. The form at /get-approved/auto takes about two minutes on a phone. It asks who you are, what you earn, and roughly what payment feels comfortable. It runs a soft credit check, which does not affect your score.

A specialist calls you. Usually the same business day. One person stays on your file from that call to the keys. This is where the parts a form cannot hold get explained: when you need to be driving, what the vehicle is for, and what happened with your credit if something happened.

Your file goes to the right lender. OCAL’s credit-intelligence system reads the whole application, not just the score, and routes it to the lender in the network most likely to approve it. Lenders differ. Some like newcomer files, some are comfortable with a consumer proposal or bankruptcy, some want a T4 and some do not.

You get a real budget. The approved amount, the payment range, the term and the rate, in writing, before a single vehicle is discussed. If the numbers do not fit your life, your specialist adjusts the ask or tries another lender.

OCAL sources the vehicle. Your specialist finds a vehicle that fits the approval from the OPENLANE dealer auction network and partner dealers, and every vehicle is inspected before delivery. Have a specific vehicle in mind? Say so, and OCAL will try to source it inside your approval.

You sign and it is delivered. Contracts are signed digitally. Funding and delivery usually follow within three or four days of signing, to your driveway, anywhere in British Columbia or Alberta.

How long does the whole process take?

Most applicants get a decision the same business day. From application to signed contract averages about five days, because the vehicle is sourced after you are approved rather than pulled off a lot. Funding and delivery usually follow within three or four days of signing. A customer who applies on a Monday is commonly driving by the following week.

Will applying affect my credit score?

Checking your options with OCAL uses a soft inquiry, which is not visible to other lenders and does not change your score. A hard inquiry happens only with your consent, once you have accepted an approval and a specific vehicle, when the lender books the loan. You will be told before that happens.

What does it cost to use OCAL?

There is no fee to apply and no fee for a decision. OCAL does not add a markup to the lender’s rate. Extended warranty and protection products are available on most financed vehicles and can be included in the financing, but buying them is optional and never a condition of approval. Your specialist shows you what each one costs, with and without, before you sign.

Who does OCAL work best for?

Working Canadians who want the financing settled before they shop. In practice that means first-time buyers, newcomers without a Canadian credit file, self-employed and gig-economy earners whose income is real but harder to document, people rebuilding after a consumer proposal or bankruptcy, and prime borrowers who would simply rather not spend a Saturday on a lot.

OCAL can only arrange financing for residents of British Columbia and Alberta today. Manitoba and Ontario are the next provinces planned.

Key facts to remember

OCAL is licensed in British Columbia (VSA D50207) and Alberta (AMVIC B2036050) and delivers anywhere in either province.

The application takes about two minutes and uses a soft credit check.

Most applicants hear back the same business day, and application to signed contract averages about five days.

OCAL keeps zero standing inventory but has a digital inventory of more than 3,000 vehicles through OPENLANE and partner dealers. It buys yours only after you are approved, and every vehicle is inspected before delivery.

OCAL does not lend money and does not mark up the lender’s rate. Approval is always the lender’s decision.

Every on-time payment is reported to the credit bureaus by the lender, so the loan rebuilds credit while you drive.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pick the car first or get approved first?

Approved first. You receive a real budget and terms, then OCAL sources a vehicle that fits. If you already have a vehicle in mind, tell your specialist and OCAL will try to source it inside your approval.

Does OCAL lend the money?

No. OCAL arranges financing through a network of third-party Canadian lenders and does not hold your loan. Your approval, rate and term are set by the lender.

Can I see the vehicle before I buy it?

You receive the full listing, photos, history report and inspection results before you sign, and every vehicle is inspected before delivery. OCAL does not run a lot, so there is no showroom visit or test drive. The delivery process and the contract are built around that.

What documents will I need?

A valid Canadian driver’s licence, proof of income such as recent pay stubs, bank statements or a letter of employment, proof of address, and banking details for payments. Self-employed applicants may be asked for a Notice of Assessment or business bank statements. Proof of insurance is needed before delivery.
